When Scott Henry was young, he learned to swim at the Van Nuys YMCA. Now. Henry and his wife look forward to enrolling their 4-year-old son in programs at the local Y.
The Henrys aren’t alone. The Torrance-South Bay YMCA is the largest local nonprofit community service organization, serving about one of every 10 residents in an area that ranges from toney Manhattan Beach to hardscrabble Harbor Gateway. More than 32,000 people are enrolled in programs offered at a half-dozen facilities.
“The Y is all about diversity. One of our missions is giving people from all types of backgrounds a place to get together.”
Henry, a De La Rosa & Co. Vice President, has served on the Y’s Board of Directors for two years, and currently sits on the Major Gifts and Golf committees.
“The Major Gifts committee raised more than $430,000 in eight weeks soliciting donations from YMCA supporters, and the Golf Committee is setting up a tournament in May to raise funds.”
De La Rosa is a sponsor of the Torrance-South Bay YMCA’s Chairman’s Round Table.
